About us

SATA was established in 1997 and is a national body representing the Unani-Tibb profession in healthcare delivery and education.

SATA is the eleventh Profession of the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa (AHPCSA) for which the register was officially opened in September 2007.

The AHPCSA is a statutory health body that is mandated to regulate all allied health professions which includes but is not limited to Unani Tibb, Therapeutic Reflexology, Phytotherapy, Naturopathy, Chinese Medicine and acupuncture, Ayurveda, etc.

The primary focus of SATA is the promotion and support of Unani-Tibb practitioners and students registered with the Association, and acts in the interests of its members of all matters relating to Tibb.

Included in the functions of SATA are:

  • Maintaining a register of individual members
  • Setting professional standards
  • Partnering with training institution to provide quality medical skills training
  • Service provider of Continuous Professionals Development (CPD)
  • Providing Codes of Conduct, Ethics and Practices
  • Ensures that all Members have professional indemnity, public liability and medical malpractice insurance.
  • Publish peer reviewed research in journals

Our Head Office is situated in the Western Cape with regional branches established in the Eastern Cape, Gauteng and KwaZulu Natal.
